The men's basketball team opened its 2010-11 campaign with a rout of Viterbo. The Falcons poured in on early and took a 41-12 lead at the half, before finishing off a 74-41 win Tuesday night at the Karges Center.
After
Ollie White (Mound, MN, Mound-Westonka HS) hit a free throw to tie the game at three, it was all River Falls. They went on a 16-3 run and never looked back. The V-Hawks went on two scoring droughts on nearly five minutes in the first half.
Shane Manor (Altoona, UW-Superior) lead the Falcon charge in the first half with nine points and four rebounds. It was White's first half that stood off the page however, he finished the half with six points and established a career high with seven boards. White would go on to finish with a career high in both points and rebounds with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
In the second half the Falcons were able to open up the bench and all but one Falcon saw action as they coasted to the easy victory.
The Falcon defense forced the V-Hawks to take tough shots all night. Viterbo finished with just 14 made field goals on 14-57 (.246) shooting.
Three Falcons ended the night in double-figures, Manor (14),
Jake Voeltz (River Falls, River Falls HS) (13) and While (12).
Zach Smith (Rochester, MN, John Marshall HS) also saw a lot of action, establishing career highs in both points and rebounds with six points and four rebounds.
No V-Hawk ended the night in double-figures, Ryan Ambrose lead Viterbo with nine.
The Falcons are in action this weekend at the Northwestern Tournament where they will take on Simpson College (IA) in the opening round. Tip-off is set for 4pm at Northwestern College in Roseville, MN on Friday.
