Six unanswered goals, including two by
Katie Flanagan, give the Falcons a 6-2 win Tuesday night at Hunt Arena.
The Falcons faced a 2-1 deficit after the first period. St. Olaf jumped out to a 2-0 lead with goals from Taylor Orr at 5:38 and a power-play-goal by Alison Umland at 11:16 into the first period. They would be the only two goals St. Olaf would score. The Falcons responded with six unanswered goals. The first of the six came late in the first period at 14:53 as
Katie Batters (Champlin, MN, Champlin Park HS) slipped on between the pipes off a pass from
Lauren Conrad (Lino Lakes, MN, Centennial HS). It was Batter's second goal of the season.
In the second period the Falcons came out strong, scoring two goals, stretching it to three unanswered goals. Both were assisted by
Heather Horgen (Grand Rapids, MN, Grand Rapids HS). The first of those two goals came early in the first period at 3:05 when
Katie Flanagan (Roseville, MN, Roseville HS) scored her second goal of the season to tie the game at 2-2.
Kait Mason (Eagan, MN, Eagan HS) tallied her third goal of the season at 11:30 giving the Falcons a 3-2 lead that the Falcons would take into the second intermission.
In the third, the Falcons scored their fourth unanswered goal that extended their lead to 4-2. A St. Olaf penalty set up a Falcon power play 8:32 and at 8:59
Brook Story (Warroad, MN, Warroad HS) scored her fourth goal of the season, a power-play-goal, with an assist from
Emma Nordness (Excelsior, MN, Benilde-St. Margaret's HS). Later in the period at 17:43
Breanne Hrabe (New Prague, MN, New Prague HS) tallied her team-leading fifth goal of the season to make it 5-2 Falcons. Flangan put the final nail in the coffin at 19:10 with her second goal of the contest and third of the season.
Between the pipes,
Melissa Deardorff stopped 16 of 18 St. Olaf shots, improving to 2-0-0 on the season.
The Falcons outshot St. Olaf 51 to 18 on the evening. The Falcons converted 2 of 4 power plays and St. Olaf found success on 1 of 6.
The Falcons improve to 6-0-0 on the season with a 4-0-0 record in NCHA play. The Falcons prepare for a NCHA conference mange against UW-Eau Claire Saturday December 4 at Hunt Arena. Action is set to get under way at 3:05 p.m.
