Conrad Scores Two Points off a Goal, Assist

The No. 3 Falcons knocked off No. 7 Gustavus 4-2 Friday night at Hunt Arena.

The first period was a highly contested one. The Falcons got off 15 shots on Gustie goaltender Danielle Justice, but to no avail. There was only one stoppage in the period for penalty, which resulted in a Falcon power play opportunity at 16:55. Falcon goaltender Cassi Campbell (Anchorage, AK, Toronto Rattlers) was just as dominate. Cambell was a vacuum and prevented Gustie goals by sweeping up numerous rebeunds in the period.

Gustavus broke the 0-0 tie early in the second period. Gustie Forward Mollie Carroll intercepted a loose puck and passed it to Allie Schwab who scored on Campbell, giving the Gusties the 1-0 lead at 1:43. Later in the period from 12:22 to 13:10 , the Falcons skated two short and shutdown a Gustavus 5 on 3 advantage. A Gustvaus hooking penalty at 13:21 set up a Falcon power play. Alyssa Black (Mankato, MN, West HS) snuck one past Justice to tie the score at 1-1. It was Black's first goal of the season and was assisted by Lauren Conrad (Lino Lakes, MN, Centennial HS)and Katie Batters (Champlin, MN, Champlin Park HS).

7:55 into the third period, Gustavus broke the 1-1 tie with a goal from Lindsey Hjelm. Seconds later, the Falcons tied the score 2-2 with a Katie Flanagan (Roseville, MN, Roseville HS) goal at 8:05 off an assist from Kait Mason (Eagan, MN, Eagan HS). It was Flanagan's fifth goal of the season. Half a minute later at 8:40, Conrads second goal of the season gave the Falcons a 3-2 lead. Ashly Berner (Plymouth, MN, Armstrong HS) assisted on Conrad's goal. Brook Story's (Warroad, MN, Warroad HS) empty netter sealed the deal for the Falcons at 19:48.

Campbell was solid between the pipes allowing only two goals on 27 shots faced. The Falcons went 1 for 4 on the power play while Gustavus failed to convert on four. The Falcons outshot Gustavus 40 to 27.

The win extended the Falcons winning streak to nine and they are now 9-0-0 on the season. Tomorrow,  the Falcons will take on St. Kates. Puck drops at 7:05 pm at Hunt Arena.
