Men's Basketball Team Goes to 4-0 in WIAC Play With Win at Oshkosh

Koonkaew Scores 18 Points in Team's 70-61 Win

The No. 18 ranked Falcons men's basketball team continued its early season conference success with a 70-61 victory over the UW-Oshkosh Titans at the Kolf Sports Center Saturday afternoon. 

UW-River Falls improved to 4-0 in conference play and currently holds a game and a half lead in the WIAC standings.

UWO opened the game with a 7-0 run with four points coming from Paul Wojahn.  The Falcons countered with a 20-6 to take control and they never trailed again.

River Falls took its largest lead of 11 points late in the half when Shane Manor (Altoona, UW-Superior) scored with 1:35 remaining.  UWRF lead 34-25 at the half.

Oshkosh had an 11:11 stretch that sandwiched halftime without a field goal, they finished the night 20-50 (.400) on the night. John Flanigan scored with 5:26 remaining in the first half, and UWO did not have another field goal until the 14:15 mark in the second session.

The Falcons extended their lead to 17 at two different times in the half, before finishing off the nine point win. The second half was evenly matched with both teams putting up 36 points. 

Jontae Koonkaew (Apple Valley, MN, Apple Valley HS) came off the bench, for the second straight game, to lead the Falcons with 18 points. Three other Falcons finished in double figures -  Manor (14), Brian Kimble (Stevenson Ranch, CA, Coll. of Canyons JC) (11) and Jake Voeltz (River Falls, River Falls HS) (13). Kimble and Manor led the Falcons with five rebounds each. Voeltz led UWRF with three blocks and three steals.

UWO was led by Flanigan who scored 18 points.

UWRF, 8-2 overall, will be back in action on Tuesday night when the Hamline Pipers visit the Karges Center for an 8 p.m. tip.
