Men's Hockey Blanks Lake Forest; Wins 3-0

The Falcon men's hockey team defeated Lake Forest College in the first of a two-game weekend series at Hunt Arena by a score of 3-0.

The game went scoreless for the entirety of the first period as both defenses refused to let up to their opponents. The Falcon offense had 13 shots on goal in the period compared to the Forester's eight. At goaltender for River Falls was the always impressive freshman Scott Lewan (Westland, MI, Alberni Valley, BCHL), earning his fifth start of the season. Marc Stuart was in net for the Foresters.

The Falcons put the first goal on the board at 10:10 in the second period on the stick of Alec Hagaman (Peoria, IL, Topeka, NAHL) on a power play opportunity following a slashing penalty on Anthony Ventura. The goal came on a scrum for the puck at the Forester's net as both teams scrambled for possession. Brady Horn (Yorba Linda, CA, Langley, BCHL) and Josh Calleja (New Richmond, Wisconsin, MnJHL) were awarded assists on the goal.

River Falls extended their lead to two goals when Geoff Shewmake (Chicago, IL, Bradford, GMHL) sunk a shot on Marc Stuart at 16:04 in the second period. The goal was the first of Shewmake's collegiate career, and he was assisted by Tad Norris (Snowmass, CO, Kenai River, NAHL) and Chris Salomone (Homer Glen, IL, Traverse City, NAHL). Lewan recorded 15 saves in the second period to Stuart's 18.

Hagaman put the nail in the Forester's coffin at 18:37 in the third period with his ninth goal of the season. Assisting Hagaman was Ben Beaudoin (Inver Grove Heights, MN, Southern Minnesota, NAHL). Lewan recorded nine saves in the period for a total of 32 throughout the game.

The fresh talent on the Falcons roster is certainly making their presence known this season. Hagaman is currently the leading goal scorer for the Falcons, and Lewan's lights out performance has earned him the first shut out of his young collegiate career. His hot streak continues, as he has not given up a goal in his past 113 consecutive minutes in net.

The Falcons now hold a record of 4-5-1 following the shut out victory and have broken a three game losing skid. Lake Forest drops to 2-8. Both teams will be battling for another win tomorrow night at Hunt Arena in the second and final game of the weekend series. The action is scheduled to begin at 7:05 p.m.
