Men's Basketball Upends No. 1 Stevens Point, 73-60 - Video Added

Koonkaew leads charge with 20 (18 in the second half)

 The Falcons men's basketball team knocked off the defending National Champions and current No. 1 team Stevens Point Pointers 73-60 Saturday afternoon at the Karges Center. 

River Falls opened the game on a 16-4 run sparked by two three-point bombs fromAaron Anderson (Stillwater, MN, Stillwater HS).  After a Pointer timeout, UWSP scored the next five points to trim the lead to seven.  Over  the next 12 minutes the Pointer went on a 27-9 run to take a six point lead. 

The Falcons added the last five points before the half, capped by another Anderson three, to put the halftime score at 31-30 UWSP.

UWRF picked up right where they left off in the opening half, by scoring the first five points in the second session. All five scored by Jontae Koonkaew (Apple Valley, MN, Apple Valley HS), who had only two first half points.  Koonkaew would end the night leading the Falcons in scoring with 20. 

UWSP would never lead again. They got as close as two with 6:50 remaining, however the Pointers were outscored 17-5 in the final seven minutes. 

Jake Voeltz (River Falls, River Falls HS) had another spectacular game for the Falcons finishing with 17 points and 11 rebounds, five of which were offensive rebounds. 

Anderson and Shane Manor (Altoona, UW-Superior)also finished in double-figures. UT Udo (Apple Valley, MN, U. of Mary) finished the night with eight points and nine rebounds. 

Vinny Ritchay lead the Pointers with 14 points. 

The Falcons improve to 6-2 on the season.  They will be in action on Wednesday night when the Eau Claire Blugolds come to the Karges Center for a 7p.m. tip-off.
