No. 2 Falcons Squeeze Past St. Scholastica 1-0

Falcons unbeaten streak enxtends to 16 consecutive after 1-0 nailbitter

Katie Flanagan scored her eighth goal of the season to break a 0-0 tie early in the third period as the Falcons went on to extendend their unbeaten streak to 16 consecutive, sweeping St. Scholastica after 1-0 nailbitter Saturday afternoon at Hunt Arena.

The opening frame lacked fluidity as there were numerous stoppages in the period including five penalties, three commited by the Falcons and two by the Saints. The Falcons were finding the net, but couldn't get the puck past Saints' goaltender Rachel Borchardt. Despite the advantages and outshooting Scholastica 13 to 0, the Falcons and Saints ended the period goosegged with a scoreless tie.

The second period saw its first stoppage at 6:11 for a St. Scholastica interference penalty. Then after 20:00, each team skated off the ice with a 0-0 tie. The Falcons outshot the Saints 14-9 in the middle period.

The Falcons wound up on the board first 5:15 into the final frame.Katie Flanagan's (Roseville, MN, Roseville HS)'s eighth goal of the season broke the 0-0 tie to give the Falcons at 1-0 lead. Bailey Vikstrom (Burnsville, MN, Burnsville HS) and Michelle Anez (Little Falls, MN, Alexandria HS) assisted on the goal.


The Falcons outshot the Saints 41 to 21 for the contest and went 0 for 5 on the power play. The Saints were also 0 for 5 on the advantage.

Between the pipes, Melissa Deardorff (Anchorage, AK, Anchorage North Stars) played 60:00 for the Falcons and stopped all 21 shots faced. Her record Now stands at 6-0-0 on the season.

Up next, the Falcons will host Adrian College for a pair of NCHA conference games next weekend. Puck drops at 5:05 p.m. Friday at Hunt Arena.
