The Falcon women's hockey team earned a 3-1 NCHA win over Adrian College on Sunday afternoon at Hunt Arena to stay undefeated this year.
After a scoreless first period that had both teams have one power play, the Falcons finished with an 11-5 advantage in shots on goal.
The Falcons, now 16-0-2 overall and 12-0-2 in NCHA play, got on the scoreboard first when Katie Batters (Champlin, MN, Champlin Park HS) scored her eighth goal of the season off a great pass from Alyssa Black (Mankato, MN, West HS) from the right corner. Alyssa Jackson (Cambridge, MN, Cambridge-Isanti HS) also picked up an assist on the goal that came at 7:15. The Bulldogs, now 10-6-3 overall and 8-3-3 in league play, tied the score, 1-1, at 17:06 when Lauren Anastos scored from just in front of Falcon goalie Ashley Kuechle (Saskatoon, SASK, Battleford Sharks). UWRF got the lead back with just 44 seconds to play in the period when Kait Mason (Eagan, MN, Eagan HS) scored her seventh goal of the year, unassisted. Mason beat AC goalie, Emily Michelin, with a wrist shot high to the glove side from about 30 feet in front. Both teams had 11 shots on goal in the second period.
The Falcons went ahead, 3-1, at 9:36 with a Katie Flanagan (Roseville, MN, Roseville HS) power-play goal. Flanagan scored off a tip from 12 feet in front of the Bulldog net. Flanagan tipped Lauren Conrad's (Lino Lakes, MN, Centennial HS) shot from the right point. It was her team-best ninth goal of the year. Judy Daleiden (Blaine, MN, Blaine HS) also picked up an assist on Flanagan's second power-play goal of the year.
Kuechle made 21 saves to get the win. She is now 3-0-1 this year. Michelin stopped 29 of 32 shots and she is now 7-4-2 overall.
The Falcons finished 1-5 on the power play and AC was 0-3. UWRF had three minor penalties and the Bulldogs were called for five minors.
UWRF, ranked No. 2 in the USCHO.com poll, will next play a big NCHA weekend series at UW-Superior. Friday's game starts at 7 p.m., followed by Saturday's game at 2 p.m. The Falcons are in first place in the NCHA with 26 points, three points ahead of the second place Yellowjackets.
