Eryn Lansverk (White Bear Lake, MN, White Bear Lake) had three goals as the UWRF topped Ripon College Sunday afternoon at Ramer Field. Four other Falcons also had goals as the Falcons shot the ball 43 times on their way to their second straight victory.
“It was a great follow-up to yesterday's win,” said Falcon head coach Sean McKuras, “Our goal-scorers and defense pressured consistently through 90 minutes and that's why we won today.”
Lansverk was a key to the pressure as she added three goals today giving her a total of five in the last two games.
The Falcons started things off in the 14th minute and never looked back. Lansverk took perfect pass from Alyssa Manor (Stillwater, MN, Stillwater) and buried the ball into the bottom corner to put the Falcons up 1-0.
Just under ten minutes later, in the 23rd minute, Lansverk struck the back of the net again off of a pass from Janae Baron (Hermantown, MN, Hermantown). The goal gave the UWRF a 2-0 lead, but neither Lansverk nor the Falcons were finished scoring.
In the 25th minute, Lansverk would take another Baron pass and make it count. A crowd in front of the prevented Ripon goalie Lexi Soich to see exactly where the ball was as Lansverk scored her seventh goal of the season, completed the hat trick and gave UWRF a 3-0 advantage.
In the 29th minute, Baron's hard work paid of in the form of a goal. Carlin Bunting (Cottage Grove, MN, Hastings) launched a long kick that fell right in front of Baron as she ran into the Red Hawk zone and she put it just over Soich's head to give the Falcons a 4-0 lead.
Four minutes later, in in the 33rd minute, Bunting took a great pass from Abbie Zastrow (Green Bay, WI, Bayport) in front of the net and scored as she put the ball into the bottom corner of the net and made the score 5-0.
The Falcons would score one more first half goal when Beth Crane (Blaine, MN, Blaine) scored on a beautiful corner kick from Zastrow. The ball sailed over the traffic in front of the net and Crane scored her first goal of the season and gave the Falcons a 6-0 lead at halftime.
UWRF started with a goal just over a minute in to the second half at 46:05. Anna Kouba (Lino Lakes, MN, Centennial) took the feed from Bunting and scored her first goal of the season and put the Falcons up 7-0.
Ripon College would get on the board over 30 minutes later when Brandi Peltier scored her 15th goal of the season on a penalty kick and made the score 7-1 with just over 15 minutes to play.
The Red Hawks pushed hard to get pressure on Falcon goalie Rachel Thompson (Cedar Falls, IA, Cedar Falls), but were unable to do so throughout the game due to fantastic defensive play by UWRF.
The Falcons outshot the Redhawks, 24-1, in the first half and 19-4 in the second half for a 43-5 advantage.
Lansverk and Alex Swatloski (Green Bay, WI, East) had nine shots each for UWRF. 12 different Falcons registered shots in the game.
Thompson had one save for UWRF. Soich had 14 saves for Ripon College.
UWRF had nine corner kick chances. Ripon had two.
The Falcons improve to 4-8 overall after todays win. The Red Hawks fall to 3-7-1 after the loss.
The Falcons will return to Ramer Field on Wednesday, Oct. 5th as they take on Bethel at 4 p.m.
