Falcons Lose Regular Season Finale at St. Scholastica

Lansverk Scores 10th Goal of Season

Eryn Lansverk (White Bear Lake, MN, White Bear Lake) scored her 10th goal of the season, but one wasn't enough for the Falcons to get past St. Scholastica on Tuesday afternoon. UWRF fought hard all game long, but couldn't find an equalizing goal despite out-shooting the Saints.

The Falcons went in to their final game of the 2011 regular season looking to snap a three game losing streak.

Alyssa Manor (Stillwater, MN, Stillwater) was the first to get a chance to put the Falcons ahead early, but her shot from in the box at 3:54 sailed just wide of the net. Manor would also take two consecutive corner kicks in the seventh minute, but the Saints defense didn't allow the Falcon offense to set up a shot

Despite not scoring on some early chances, the Falcons grabbed the early lead when Lansverk took a pass from Leah Hagen (Ham Lake, MN, Blaine) and rocketed the ball into the net to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead.

Following the shot, in the 16th and 17th minutes, the Falcons got two more corner kick chances, but couldn't connect.

The rest of the first half was controlled by the Saints as they only allowed one Falcon shot after the 29th minute.

At 40:56 St. Scholastica would use their momentum to tie the game at 1-1 when Kelsey Kehtel scored her 15th of the season. Kehtel was assisted by Lauryn Wilson and Claire Lubansky.

The Falcons had one more chance in the first half when Lansverk launched a shot from inside the box, but it sailed just high of the post and out of play.

The second half started with another Manor corner kick in the 49th minute and a shot by Hagen that was saved by Saints goaltender Bailey Mahlum.

At 53:48, the Saints got some chances of their own as Shannon Carlson took a shot at goal, but goal keeper Rachel Thompson (Cedar Falls, IA, Cedar Falls) was there to deny her. Just minutes later, Casey Mitchell took a shot from the box on the Falcon net, but it sailed wide.

The Falcons had their best chance to take the lead in the 72nd minute when Janae Baron (Hermantown, MN, Hermantown) brought the ball into the box and launched a drive to the net, but Mahlum was there to make the save. The Falcons retained possession and Lansverk took a shot of her own, but it was Mahlum who made a great play to stop it.

The Saints got their first corner kick chance of the game in the 87th minute and made it count. Joey Moore's kick sailed to Carlson and she put the ball in the net to give St. Scholastica a 2-1 lead with just three minutes to play.

The Falcons had one more chance when Carlin Bunting (Cottage Grove, MN, Hastings) took a shot from in the box with 40 seconds to play, but Mahlum was there one more time to seal the victory for St. Scholastica.

The Falcons outshot the Saints, 7-6, in the first half and 13-12 overall. Both teams had six shots in the first half.

Thompson recorded four saves for the Falcons. Mahlum recorded six saves for St. Scholastica.

Baron, Lansverk and Manor each had three shots for UWRF. Bunting had two and Anna Kouba (Lino Lakes, MN, Centennial) and Hagen each had one.
