Kait Mason (Eagan, MN, Eagan HS) had a four-point game off a hat-trick and an assist and Emma Nordness (Excelsior, MN, Benilde-St. Margaret's HS) added three helpers as the Falcons rolled to a 9-0 win on the road Saturday afternoon at Marian.
The win makes the Falcons only the second team in the NCHA to ever go through the regular season without a loss. Stevens Point was the first team to do accomplish that feat back in 2004-05 when they finished 9-0-1.
The Falcons scored two goals in the first, three in the second, and four in the third. The Falcons had at least 20 shots on goal in each period.
In the first, Katie Flanagan (Roseville, MN, Roseville HS) scored her 12th goal of the season to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead at 12:45. With under a minute remaining in the frame, Mason knocked in her 12th of the season at 19:11 off a Nordness pass.
In the second it was all Falcons once again. Lauren Conrad (Lino Lakes, MN, Centennial HS) and Mason assisted Jessica Thompson (Shoreview, MN, Mounds View HS) on her sixth goal of the season at 2:02. Later in the period at 12:05, Jami Weiss (Hermantown, MN, Proctor-Hermantown HS) and the Falcons capitalized on the power play. For Weiss, it was her fifth of the season. A little over a minute later, Alyssa Black (Mankato, MN, West) scored her fourth goal of the season to give the Falcons a 5-0 lead.
Twenty-eight seconds into the final period Mason tallied her second goal of the game and 13th of the season off helpers from Thompson and Nordness. Breanne Hrabe (New Prague, MN, New Prague HS)e added to the Falcon lead with her 11th goal of the season at 1:55. Mason's third goal came 5:13 into the final period.Jamie Briski (Chisholm, MN, Hibbing-Chisholm HS)finished the game with her sixth goal of the season at 16:25 to give the Falcons a 9-0 cushion.
Between the pipes for the Falcons, Melissa Deardorff (Anchorage, AK, Anchorage North Stars) stopped all 14 shots she faced in 40:00 of play. Shelby Rasmussen (Plymouth, MN, Wayzata HS) stopped nine shots in 20:00 of relief. Deardorff picked up the win for the Falcons and is now 8-0-0.
The Falcons had no trouble finding the net, they outshot Marian 76-23. On eight power plays, the Falcons scored on one while Marian was unsuccessful on four.
The win gives the Falcons 22 on season which is a new school record they set last night. Their previous record was 20 wins in both 2002-03 and 2008-09. The Falcons, ranked No. 1 in the USCHO.com poll, have been ranked in the top 10 for 38 straight weeks.
The Falcons will host a first round NCHA playoff series next weekend at Hunt Arena against an opponent to be determined. Games will be at 7:05 p.m., on Friday and 2:05 p.m., on Saturday.
