Women's Hockey Team Battles to 2-1 Win at UW-Superior

Katie Batters Scores Both Falcon Goals in Road Win

The Falcon women's hockey team earned another road win, 2-1, at UW-Superior on Friday night. Katie Batters (Champlin, MN, Champlin Park HS) scored both goals for the Falcons in the big win.

UWRF, ranked No. 2 in the USCHO.com poll, remains unbeaten this year with a 17-0-2 overall record. More significant, the Falcons are still unbeaten in NCHA play and are now 13-0-2 in league play and remain in first place.

The Falcons have 28 points in the NCHA and are five points ahead of second place Superior.  UWRF has five games left in NCHA play.

The Falcons grabbed a 1-0 lead at 14:37 of the first period when Batters scored her ninth goal of the year. Breanne Hrabe (New Prague, MN, New Prague HS) and Alyssa Jackson (Cambridge, MN, Cambridge-Isanti HS) picked up the assists. UWS had a 9-8 advantage in shots on goal in the first 20 minutes.

The Jackets tied the game at 3:33 of the second period when Becca Kent scored an unassisted goal.

Batters scored what proved to be the game winner at 13:03 of the second period with the Falcons on the power play. It was her 10th of the season and she now leads the team in goals. Lauren Conrad (Lino Lakes, MN, Centennial HS) picked up the assist on the game-winner. The Falcons took control of the game and finished with an 11-5 advantage in shots.

There were no goals in the final 20 minutes and UWRF had a 12-6 advantage in shots.

Falcon goalie Cassi Campbell (Anchorage, AK, Toronto Rattlers) picked up the win and is now 8-0-1. She made 19 saves. UWS's Amy Torgerson stopped 29 of 31 shots.

The Falcons played a disciplined game and were called for just two minor penalties. The Jackets were called for seven minors. UWRF finished 1-5 on the power play and UWS was 0-1.

The two teams play the second game of the series at 2 p.m., on Saturday in Wessman Arena.
