Adrian College Beats UW-Superior, 3-0

Bulldogs Will Face UW-River Falls For O'Brien Cup Title

Adrian College scored two third period goals and earned a 3-0 win over UW-Superior in the semifinals of the NCHA O'Brien Cup playoffs on Friday night at Hunt Arena at UW-River Falls.

With the win the Bulldogs, 18-7-3 overall, will play UW-River Falls, 24-0-4 overall, in the O'Brien Cup championship game at 2:05 p.m., on Saturday.

Adrian scored the only goal of the first period with just four seconds to play. Jessica Grubbs scored a power-play goal with assists to Danielle Maludy and Brooke Zaleski. Grubbs' shot came from just inside the blue line and beat UWS goalie, Amy Torgerson, low on her right side. It was the sixth goal of the year for Grubbs. AC held a 9-6 advantage in shots on goal in the first period.

There was no scoring in the second period. Adrian once again had the advantage in shots during the closely played period, 10-9.

In the third Adrian's Ashley Gniewek scored with just 2:52 to play to make it a 2-0 game. Zaleski and Rork picked up assists on the goal. It was her eighth goal of the year. Stacey Kempson scored into an empty net with 14 seconds to goal to seal the win for her team. It was her team-best 15 goal of the year. Maludy and Rebecca Hampton got the assists.

AC goalie Emily Michelin stopped all 24 Superior shots to earn her eighth shutout of the year.Torgerson stopped 26 of 29 Adrian shots.

Adrian finished 1-3 on the power play while Superior was 0-2. The Bulldogs were called for three minor penalties and UWS had four minors. Adrian had a slight 29-24 advantage in shots for the game. Superior finishes its season with a 13-8-7 record.
