Soccer Team Strikes in Second Half for 2-1 Victory

Becca Kramer Stops Seven for First Win

Eryn Lansverk (White Bear Lake, MN, White Bear Lake) and Alyssa Manor (Stillwater, MN, Stillwater) both had second half goals in a comeback win against Augsburg College Friday night in Minneapolis. Lansverk and Manor combined for 11 shots on goal and goaltender Becca Kramer (St. Michael, MN, St. Michael-Albertville) stopped seven shots to lead the Falcons to a 2-1 come-from-behind victory.

Making her first start of the season, Kramer, was great in net and made a superb save on an Auggie chance early in the first half.

Bri Clark took control of the ball on a terrific pass that put her in all alone against Kramer, but Kramer dove at the ball and made the save to keep the game scoreless.

Augsburg's only goal was scored at 9:14 on a corner kick chance by Courtney Gamrath. Her kick sailed to Clark who headed the ball over the head of Kramer and gave the Auggies a 1-0 lead.

The Falcons also set up plenty of chances of their own.

At 22:33, the Falcons made a great passing sequence into the Auggie zone that set up a curving shot by Manor that was just in the reach of Augsburg goaltender Katie Gajewski.

The first half would end with Augsburg on top 1-0.

The Falcons took control of the second half early and never looked back.

Lansverk netted her second goal of the season in the 46th minute after Alex Swatloski's (Green Bay, WI, East) shot rebounded of the crossbar. Lansverk was in the right spot to drive the ball home and tie the game at 1-1.

The Falcons took the quick momentum shift and used it to take the lead.

Just over two minutes later, at 48:58, Janae Baron (Hermantown, MN, Hermantown) fed Manor who took a 25 yard shot from the right side and beat Gajewski to give the Falcons a 2-1 lead with just over 40 minutes to play.

The Auggies fought hard to tie the game, but they were unable to put another ball past Kramer.

At 71:17, the Auggies had their best chance to tie the game when Gamrath used a corner kick to set up a header by Carly Reimer that was blocked by the Falcons in front. The ball then bounced to Olivia Muyres and her shot was also blocked by UWRF in front of the net.

Seconds later, Reimer had one more chance to tie the game, but her shot sailed high over the head of Kramer.

The Falcons outshot the Auggies, 12-7, in the first half and 19-14 overall. Both teams had seven shots in the first half.

Manor led all Falcon shooters with six shots. Lansverk had five and Carlin Bunting (Cottage Grove, MN, Hastings) and Anna Kouba (Lino Lakes, MN, Centennial) both had two shots.

Kramer and Gajewski both had seven saves on the night.

Kramer gets a victory in her first start of the year and moves to 1-0. Gajewski is now 3-3-1 on the season.

Augsburg led the Falcons, 3-2, on corner kick chances.

The Falcons are now 2-5 overall after tonight's victory. Augsburg falls to 3-3-1 overall.

UWRF will now travel to Platteville to take on the Pioneers at Pioneer Stadium in a WIAC matchup on Saturday, Sept. 24th at 5 p.m.
