Despite getting a career-high 10 kills from freshman Rebecca Gasper (New Berlin, WI, West), the Falcon volleyball team suffered a 3-0 loss to UW-Whitewater on the road Friday night.  Game scores were 25-20, 25-22 and 25-21.

Gaspar led the Falcons with 10 kills.  She also added three block aces for the Falcons, who now stand at 4-3 in the WIAC with one regular season match to go. The Falcons will complete their regular season schedule on Saturday as they take on UW-Oshkosh.  That match will decide the seed placement for the WIAC tournament, which is set to begin Oct. 30.

Erin Green (Fridley, MN, Fridley) added eight kills and Kaylee Jacobs (Glenwood, MN, Minnewaska), seven.  However, UWW was able to out-hit UWRF 39-29 in total kills. Mackenzie Suda (Ham Lake, MN, Blaine) added 24 set assists.  She has led UWRF is every match with set assists.

The Falcons had a well-balanced defense.  Kadie Brooks (St. Charles, IL, East) led the way with 12 digs, followed by Courtney Preiner (Oakdale, MN, Hill-Murray) with 11.

A difference in this tight match was that the Warhawks were able to produce 13 service aces compared to UWRF's five. UWRF was, however, able to out-block the Warhawks 14-6.

This was the second time this season that UWW was able to sweep the Falcons in one week's time.  On Oct. 19 the Warhawks defeated UWRF 3-0 in the opening day of the Whitewater Invite. This match, however, the Falcons were able to close the gap a little better, as 16 different times the score was tied throughout the match.

With the loss, the Falcons are now 21-11 overall and 4-3 in the WIAC.  UWW improves to 23-10 and 5-2 in the WIAC. UWW holds a 12-43 advantage in the all-time series.

The Falcons will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 27 as they take on UW-Oshkosh in the final regular season game of the season. The match is set to get underway at noon in Oshkosh. The Falcons are 19-30 all-time against the Titans.
