Volleyball Ends Season With Loss to Oshkosh - Video Added

The women's volleyball team saw their season come to an end with a heart-breaking 3-2 loss to UW-Oshkosh in the first round of the WIAC playoffs.  UWO came into the match as the No. 5 seed, and the Falcons were the No. 4 seed.

The Falcons got on the board first, taking the first set 25-20, but the Titans took the second, 26-24.  UWRF would then take the third set in a thrilling 25-23 fashion, but the Titans would close out the match by taking the next two sets 25-20 and 15-12.

The Falcons were well-balanced on offense, as five players recorded double-digit kills.  Jean Theis (Shakopee, MN, Shakopee) led the way with 13, followed by senior Danielle Gibbemeyer (St. Paul, MN, Cretin-Derham Hall), who was playing in her last game as a Falcon, with 12.  Brianna Muetzel (Oakdale, MN, Cretin-Derham Hall) added 11 and Kaylee Jacobs (Glenwood, MN, Minnewaska) and Erin Green (Fridley, MN, Fridley) had 10 apiece.  Green has also completed her illustrious career with UWRF.

Also playing in her last game was senior setter Mackenzie Suda (Ham Lake, MN, Blaine).  She had all 53 set assists for the Falcons who finish their season with a 22-12 record.

Courtney Preiner (Oakdale, MN, Hill-Murray), who will graduate as UWRF's all-time dig leader, finished her career by leading the Falcons with 14 digs. Gibbemyer added 12 and fellow senior Abbey Schmidtman (Renville, MN, Renville County West) finished her career with 10 digs throughout the match.  Hayley Buchanan (Eden Prairie, MN, Eden Prairie) rounded out the six seniors who finished their strong careers with UWRF volleyball.

The Falcons beat the Titans in nearly every statistical category.  The only area where UWO was better was with blocks as they had 14 compared to UWRF's 12.

UWO will now advance to the WIAC semifinals.
