Volleyball Team Loses First WIAC Match

UWSP Tops Falcons



The Falcon volleyball team lost its first WIAC match of the year, 3-0, at UW-Stevens Point on Friday night.

The Falcons, now 15-6 overall and 3-1 in the WIAC, are still tied for first in WIAC play. The Falcons are joined by Stevens Point (4-1), Whitewater (3-1) and Stout (2-1) who all have one loss in league play.

The Pointers won in three sets, 25-18, 25-16, 26-24, to improve to 15-4 overall. UWSP is ranked No. 20 in this week's AVCA poll.

The Falcons hit just .099 in the match, compared to UWSP's .239, and averaged 10.2 kills per set. The Falcons were hitting .237, and averaging just over 12 kills per set, going into Friday night's action.

In the first set the Falcons hit -.032, and had just six kills, in the loss. The team's best hitting set was the second when they had 14 kills and hit .270. In the third set the Falcons had 15 kills but hit just .045.

Erin Green led UWRF with 13 kills and she had a .280 hitting percentage. Jean Theis had nine kills and hit .208. Mackenzie Suda led the Falcons with 33 assists and she had nine digs. Courtney Preiner led UWRF with 14 digs. Kaylee Jacbos, who had four kills, led the Falcons in blocks with one solo and two assists.

UWSP was led by Sarah Wildish who had 13 kills.

The Falcons return to action on Saturday when they host Augsburg at 2 p.m., at the Karges Center.
