Box Score This afternoon the UW-River Falls Falcons hosted the UW-Stevens Point Pointers.
Kait Mason scored two goals in the game helping UWRF win 3-2 over UWSP.
The Pointers came in as the top team in the NCHA up to this point with a 5-1-2 overall record. The Falcons came in third in the conference with a 4-1-2 overall record.
The first period ended scoreless after strong play from both teams. UWRF got off 14 shots on goal in the period out shooting UWSP who got off five shots. UWRF had 38 shots total in the game compared to the 17 shots by UWSP. Mason led the Falcons with six shots. She now has 24 on the season.
UWRF wasted no time scoring in the second period. Mason scored her second goal of the season to make it a 1-0 game at 1:35.
Leah Gefroh was credited with the assist. At 5:52 into the period UWSP answered with a goal of their own scored by Michelle Lunneborg.
Freshman
Megan Juricko broke the tie at 3:35 into the third period off a power-play goal. This was her first collegiate goal. The Falcons went 1-5 on power-play opportunities. Mason scored her second goal of the game at 11:18 off the
Judy Daleiden assist. Emily Lester for UWSP scored the final goal of the game late in the third period.
Ashley Kuechle played strong in the net for UWRF. She recorded 14 saves and only allowed two goals. Janna Beilke-Skoug recorded 35 saves for UWSP.
These two teams will meet again tomorrow afternoon with the puck set to drop at 2:05 p.m.
