Brook Story scored a goal and an assist to help the Falcon women's hockey team to a 4-0 win at UW-Superior on Friday afternoon.
The first goal of the game came from
Crysta Lowell on a power play. Story and
Allie Olson both got credited with assists. The goal came 4:16 into the game and it was Lowell's first goal of the year.
Kait Mason scored the lone goal of the second period at 6:12 off an assist by
Taylor Guzzo. The goal was Mason's second of the year.
The Falcons got a pair of goals in the third period. The first came from
Alyssa Black off
Alice Cranston and
Sam Greeley assists. It was Black's first goal of the season. Story added the final goal of the game at 17:22. She scored the second power-play goal of the game and it was her first of the year.
Katie Batters got the assist.
"We played a solid game," said Falcon Coach
Joe Cranston. "It was one of those games were we got the majority of the bounces."
Both teams played each other close in shots with UWRF having 23 and UWS 18.
Ashley Kuechle played strong in the net saving all 18 shots, getting her first shutout of the season. This was her second career shutout as a Falcon. "It was a nice shutout for Ashley," said Cranston. "She played extremely well." Superior goalie Megan Leikkari recorded 19 saves in the game.
UWRF will play at UWS again on Saturday with the puck set to drop at 2 p.m.
