The Falcon soccer team got back on track with an 10-0 victory at Bethany Luthern on Tuesday afternoon in Mankato, Minn. It marks the second time this season the Falcons have scored eight or more goals in a game.
Cassie Stang (Stillwater, MN, Mahtomedi) led the team with a hat trick and Carlin Bunting (Cottage Grove, MN, Hastings) and Anna Kouba (Lino Lakes, MN, Centennial) both scored two goals.
Bunting opened the scoring at 16:52 in the first half when Leah Hagen (Ham Lake, MN, Blaine) assisted her on her first goal. The goal gave the Falcons a 1-0 lead.
Hanna Danke (River Falls, WI, River Falls) added a goal at 25:10 to put the Falcons up by two. Alyssa Manor (Stillwater, MN, Stillwater) was credited with the assist.
Andrea Scanlan (Shakopee, MN, Shakopee) and Hagen both added goals in the 32nd minute. Scanlan scored at 32:13 and was assisted by Abbie Zastrow (Green Bay, WI, Bayport). Hagen scored at 32:57, assisted by Bunting.
The early surge gave the Falcons a 4-0 lead at the half and they continued their domination in the second half.
Stang scored the first of her three second half goals at 53:27, assisted by Bunting, to give the Falcons a 5-0 lead.
Bunting scored her second goal of the game just three minutes later, at 56:42, and the game was quiet for the next 15 minutes with the score being 6-0 Falcons.
Stang then scored back-to-back goals at 70:41 and 72:08 to open the lead up to 8-0 UWRF and complete her hat trick. Manor and Scanlan were credited with the assists.
Kouba then finished the game off with back-to-back goals of her own at 81:58 and 84:25 giving then Falcons a 10-0 lead. Sydney Kolnberger (South St. Paul, MN, South St. Paul) assisted on both goals.
Becca Kramer (St. Michael, MN, St. Michael-Albertville) started the game for UWRF and recorded four saves in the first half. Emily Hancock (Eagan, MN, Eagan) came in for the second half and recorded one save.
The Falcons outshot the Vikings 21-4 in the first half, 15-2 in the second half, and 36-6 overall.
UWRF improves to 2-3 overall with the win and Bethany Lutheran falls to 1-3-1 overall with the loss.
The Falcons will now return home to play Bethel University at 3 p.m. at Ramer Field on Sunday, September 16.
