The women's volleyball team ran their winning streak to six games with a convincing 3-0 win over Northland College in Ashland. Game scores were 25-13, 25-8 and 25-8 again.
The Falcons were led by a solid attacking line that hit .478 in game two, and an even .500 in game three. For the match, the Falcons hit an outstanding .449.
Jean Theis (Shakopee, MN, Shakopee) led the way with a season's best 13 kills. She was 13 of 16 from the attacking line for an outstanding .750 kill percentage. Freshman
Brianna Muetzel (Oakdale, MN, Cretin-Derham Hall) added 11 to balance a potent Falcon offense that was not blocked once by Northland as Northland had no team blocks.
Erin Green had two of UWRF's three blocks and added eight of UWRF's 42 kills. As a team, the Falcons out-hit Northland 42-16.
Mackenzie Suda (Ham Lake, MN, Blaine) was there to aid the Falcon offense with 34 set assists. She also had six digs, which was second only to
Abbey Schmidtman (Renville, MN, Renville County West) who had seven.
Danielle Gibbemeyer (St. Paul, MN, Cretin-Derham Hall) also had six digs for the Falcon defense that limited Northland to a mere 29 points throughout the match.
With the win, the Falcons improve to 8-1 on the season. Northland meanwhile, falls to 2-8. The Falcons are 14-5 all-time against Northland.
Up next for the Falcons is their own invitational. UWRF will take of St .Thomas at 3:30, followed by Gustavus at 7:30 on Friday, Sept. 14. The invitational will continue through Saturday the 15th. The Falcons are 6-10 all-time against St. Thomas and 9-9 against GAC.
