The women's soccer team lost a 1-0 heartbreaker against Hamline College in St. Paul in a game highlighted by stingy defenses.
The game was scoreless through the first half, as both teams' defenses limited the shots on goal. River Falls only managed seven shots, three of which were on goal. Hamline was able to manage 13 shots, seven of which were on goal.
Becca Kramer (St. Michael, MN, St. Michael-Albertville) started in goal for UWRF. She had seven saves. The only goal she allowed was 74 minutes into the game. When Aileen Scheibner scored what proved to be the game-winner on a header off a corner kick. She was assisted by Keanna Mienert.
The Falcons had no corner kicks, while allowing Hamline to have four.
Anna Kouba (Lino Lakes, MN, Centennial) led the Falcons with two shots on goal.
Carlin Bunting (Cottage Grove, MN, Hastings) had the other.
With the loss, the Falcons fall to 1-2 on the season. Hamline meanwhile improves to 2-0.
The Falcons hold a 6-2 all-time record over Hamline.
Up next for the Falcons is an away contest at Concordia-Moorhead. The game is set to get underway at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 8. The Falcons are 3-2 all-time against Moorhead.
