Brianna Muetzel helped lead the Falcon volleyball team to two 3-0 victories at the Hamline Invitational in St. Paul.
In the first game, the Falcons defeated Presentation College 25-14, 25- and 25-12. Muetzel led the offensive attack with 11 kills while
Erin Green added 10. As a team, the Falcons had an attacking percentage of .348 in the third set.
Mackenzie Suda had 34 set assists to aid the Falcon offense.
Courtney Preiner led the defensive side with 18 digs. She also had four ace serves to lead the Falcons, who limited Presentation to a mere 12 points in the third set, a season's best for UWRF, and a mark they would again against Buena Vista in the second match of the day.
With the loss, Presentation fell to 1-4 on the season, while the Falcons moved to 4-1 before heading into their second match of the day against Buena Vista.
Against Buena Vista it was again Muetzel who led the Falcons on offense and again the Falcons came away with the 3-0 sweep. Game scores were 25-12, 25-17 and 25-23.
Muetzel was the only player with double-digits kills. She had 10 for the two-match total of 21.
Danielle Gibbemeyer and
Jean Theis added eight kills apiece as the Falcons hit .357 in the second set of the match. The leader for Buena Vista, Jena Peters, had six throughout the entire match.
Suda had an outstanding six ace serves, which was just one short of her career-high of seven. She also added 34 set assists for the second straight match, to lead the Falcons. As a team, the Falcons recorded 10 aces while holding Buena Vista to five.
Preiner added 16 digs to help the Falcons improve to 5-1 on the season. Buena Vista falls to 1-6.
The Falcons will continue play at the Hamline Invitational as they take on UW-La Crosse tomorrow at 10 a.m., followed by Crown College at 2 p.m.
The Falcons are 26-35 all-time against UWL. This will be the first match-up between the Falcons and Crown College in program history.
