Volleyball Wins Two More at Hamline Invite

The women's volleyball team earned two more wins at the Hamline Invitational to finish the tournament with a perfect 4-0 record.  On Saturday, the Falcons defeated fellow WIAC foe UW-La Crosse 3-1 and came away with a convincing 3-0 sweep over Crown College.

In the first game of the day the Falcons defeated UWL 3-1 behind a 19-dig performance by Courtney Preiner (Oakdale, MN, Hill-Murray), an 11 kill-attack by Erin Green (Fridley, MN, Fridley) and 35 set assists by Mackenzie Suda (Ham Lake, MN, Blaine).

UWL took the first set 25-23, but the Falcons came back to win the next three 25-13, 25-10 and 25-17.

Brianna Muetzel (Oakdale, MN, Cretin-Derham Hall) added nine kills for the Falcons, who as a team hit an outstanding .444 in the third set en route to a 6-1 record.  UWL was hurt by 12 service errors.  The Falcons meanwhile, only had seven.

In the second match of the day, UWRF easily took care of Crown College in the first match-up between the two schools' volleyball history.

UWRF dominated all aspects of the game as 16 different Falcons saw action in the game.
The Falcons held Crown to a mere 27 points in all three sets combined.  UWRF won 25-7, 25-9 and 25-11.  The seven points in set one was a season's best for the Falcon defense.

Freshman Rebecca Gasper (New Berlin, WI, West) had a career-high 10 kills, which also led the Falcons. Kaylee Jacobs (Glenwood, MN, Minnewaska), also a freshman, also had a career-high as she added six kills on the night.

Preiner added 11 digs and Suda 32 set assists to lead UWRF.

Suda and Green were also named to the all-tournament team.

With the win the Falcons improve to 7-1 on the season.

The Falcons return to action with on Wednesday when they play at Northland. The Falcons are 13-5 all-time against Northland.
