Calleja, Hagaman Combine for Five Assists in Falcons Win

Jake Calleja and Alec Hagaman combined for five assists in the 5-3 win over Concordia-Moorhead for UW-River Falls. The non-conference win moves the Falcons to 7-5-2 on the season while the Cobbers fall to 5-8-1 overall on the season.

The Falcons got off to a hot start early in the game scoring two first period goals. #Bill Simon scored his first goal of the season at 12:34 into the period off the Ryan Goodmanson and Zach Schrotenboer assists.

Tyler Briola scored on his second goal of the season later on in the period. He was assisted by Calleja and Hagaman.

Cody Kohn also scored his first goal of the season with the loan goal of the second period. The third goal of the game for UWRF was assisted again by the duo of Calleja and Hagaman.

Goalie Scott Lewan shut out Concordia-Moorhead in the first two periods of play and finished the game with 25 saves.

The Cobbers came fighting back in the third period out shooting the Falcons 14-9 in the third period. They finished the game with 28 shots on goal while UWRF finished with 25 shots on goal.

The Cobbers scored at 1:17 into the third period when Andrew Deters found the back of the net.

Calleja recorded his third assist of the game when he connected with Willie Hess at 6:28 for his fifth goal off the season.

Concordia-Moorhead made a strong attempt at the comeback when they scored two more quick goals in the period.

WIth under a minute to go tempers flared as Simon for UWRF and Jordie Bancroft of the Cobbers each received game misconducts.

Adam Cardwell scored an empty net short-handed goal as the clock hit zero to seal the victory for the Falcons.

UWRF will play again tomorrow against St. John's University. Coach Steve Freeman will go for his 300th win as the Falcons head coach. The puck is set to drop at 7:05 p.m.
