Box Score The UW-River Fall Falcons fell 2-1 at home to the Lake Forest College Foresters. The loss snaps their ten game win streak.
The two teams battled even throughout the first period. At 9:27 of the first period Laura Reckdenwalk for LFC had a breakaway opportunity stopped by
Ashley Kuechle. Kuechle played a strong game tying her season high for saves with 25 in the game. She also recorded 25 saves against Gustavus Adolphus earlier this season.
At the end of the first period LFC had another opportunity to score when they went on the power play. UWRF was able to kill the penalty only allowing two shots during the two minute power play.
UWRF put 13 shots on goal in the first period and LFC attempted 11 shots on goal in the first period. Neither team scored a goal in the first period of play.
With the game still tied in the second period
Kait Mason went on a breakaway with 14:30 left in the period but had her shot gloved by LFC goalie Stacey Dierking. Dierking finished the game with 41 saves. Mason had game high nine shots on goal.
LFC broke the tie at 16:33 of the second period when they scored on their second power play opportunity of the game for the only goal of the period. The goal was scored when Michelle Greeneway tipped in a shot attempt by Marissa Weber.
UWRF attempted another 13 shots in the second period and LFC recorded 10 second period shots on goal.
UWRF wasted no time tying the game up when
Brook Story scored on a rebound 29 seconds into the third period. The goal was her ninth of the season and
Katie Batters recorded her ninth assist of the season on the play.
Greeneway scored her second goal of the game at 7:51 of the third period that would end up being the game winner.
The win moves LFC into second place in the NCHA giving them a chance to take first away from UWRF in the regular season finale tomorrow afternoon. If UWRF either wins or ties the game they will hold onto first place. The puck is set to drop at 2:05 p.m.
