Box Score Kait Mason scored two goals and an assist to lead the Falcons to a 5-0 win over Lake Forest College. The win clinches the regular season NCHA title for UWRF for the third straight year and fifth time in history.
After falling to LFC 2-1 yesterday the Falcons came out this afternoon and controlled the shot total keeping it in the Foresters zone most of the game. UWRF recorded 44 total shots on goal only allowing 11 total LFC shots on goal including holding them to only two the whole second period.
Ashley Kuechle saved all eleven Forester shots and recorded her second shutout of the season.
The first Falcon goal came at 4:22 of the first period when
Alice Cranston stole a pass and went on the 2-1 breakaway finding Mason with a nice touch pass. Cranston finishes the regular season with 14 assists.
Mason scored her second goal of the game and 16
th of the season at 9:37 of the first period off of the assist by
Amanda Ryder. She kept the scoring coming recording an early second period assist at 3:36 finding
Dani Buehrer for the goal.
The Falcons would score two more goals in the third period when
Crysta Lowell went top shelf at 9:07 into the period and
Leah Gefroh scored on the games only power play goal at 14:12 of the third.
UWRF will have home ice for the first round of the NCHA play-offs next Friday and Saturday night against the UW-Eau Claire BluGolds. The series winner will be the first team to three points. Friday, Feb. 22 the puck is set to drop at 7:05 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 23 the puck is set to drop at 2:05 p.m.
