Box Score Ashley Kuechle recorded her second straight shutout and sixth of the season in the UW-River Falls Falcons 3-0 victory over the College of St. Scholastica Saints.
Kuechle recorded 28 saves including 17 in the third period to help keep the momentum in the Falcons favor. The shutout ties a school record which was previously made by Melissa Deardorff in the 2011-2012 season.
The first period mirrored yesterday's game where it took until the final minutes for UWRF to break the tie, with neither team finding the back of the net the whole period.
It was not until 16:23 of the second period when
Alice Cranston scored a goal in front of the net for her fifth of the season on a power play goal. Cranston played strong all day with a game high six shots on goal. She was assisted by
Kait Mason and
Brianna Breiland on the goal.
At 10:23
Karleigh Wolkerstorfer went on a breakaway and sniped the puck past Lindsey Hartfiel. Wolkerstorfer now has seven goals on the season and was assisted by
Dani Sibley for her third of the season. Hartfiel recorded 24 saves in the game.
Breiland sealed the game for UWRF at 16:29 off assists by
Crysta Lowell and
Emily Stark.
The Saints had 28 shots on goal including pouring in 17 during the third period but could not get one past Kuechle. UWRF had 27 shots on goal in the game. SCC went 0-2 on power play opportunites.
UWRF moves to 12-3-2 on the season and play again at home next weekend in a series against WIAC opponent and No. 7 UW-Stevens Point. The puck is set to drop on Friday evening at 7:05 p.m.
