The UW-River Falls women's soccer team was shutout 2-0 on the road against the UW-Oshkosh Titans on Saturday afternoon in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
Â
The WIAC road loss snapped UWRF's three-game winning streak, but the Falcons are still 7-2-2 in its last 11 games and have one more win than all of last year. On Saturday, the Falcons never found an offensive rhythm against the Titans, who improved to 3-0 in the WIAC.
Sophomore midfielder Robyn Elliott opened the scoring for the Titans in the 27th minute with her fourth goal of the season. Elliott's game-winning, unassisted goal from 15 yards away helped Oshkosh carry a 1-0 lead into the second half. The goal was lofted over the head of Falcons sophomore goalkeeper
Erica Cimochowski (7-4-2).
Freshman forward Katelyn Fladten doubled the lead to 2-0 in the 51st minute with her second career goal, assisted by freshman forward Felicia Retrum and freshman midfielder Kaitlyn Schauer. Fladten's kick from five yards out sailed off the left post and past Cimochowski.
Cimochowski made five saves in her fourth loss of the season. The Falcons were outshot 7-2 on the afternoon. Senior striker
Alex Swatloski registered the only two Falcon shots, and attempted a team-high three. UWRF attempted only seven shots, hitting the net only twice. Falcons freshman midfielder
Abby Soderholm, last week's WIAC Player of the Week, attempted two shots and missed the net both times.
Titans junior goalkeeper Nina Muzi (7-5-1) stopped both shots she faced in her fifth shutout of the season. The Falcons had three corner kicks on the afternoon and only committed six fouls.
Â
UWRF has now been shutout four times this year; the Falcons were shutout nine times in last year's 6-11-1 campaign. Four WIAC games remain for UWRF, three of which are at Ramer Field in River Falls, Wisconsin. With three home WIAC games and three points in four games, the Falcons should have a legitmate shot at a top-four spot in the WIAC tournament. Only two non-conference matchups remain and both will be played at home.
Â
The Falcons drop to 7-4-2 overall, 1-2-1 in the WIAC, and 4-4-1 on the road. Oshkosh improves to 7-5-1 overall and 3-2 at home, snapping its two-game losing streak. Oshkosh has now outscored WIAC opponents 7-0 in its three conference wins. UWRF still holds the all-time series lead with a record of 12-11-2.
Â
The Falcons host the Buena Vista University Beavers at 6 p.m. on Wednesday at Ramer Field. The Falcons are 1-0 all-time against the Beavers.
