The UW-River Falls Falcons flew into UW-Steven's Point for a WIAC matchup on Saturday afternoon winning 1-0 to move to 10-4-3 overall on the season and 2-3-1 in the WIAC.
"It was a really tough, hard fought win against a quality opponent, Falcon Coach Sean McKuras said. "I have alot of respect for the Stevens Point program, they made it very hard for us."
The two schools played to a tie at the intermission. Shots was the name of the game as the Falcons and Pointers combined for a total of 11 shots on goal for the game. The Falcons were the team that made their shot count past five minutes into the second half when Carrie Anderson put in a goal to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead. The goal was Anderson's fifth of the season.
The Falcons did not get many shots off during the match taking five total, three of which were on goal. Anderson accounted for three of the shots with Kayla Windingstad accounting for the other two.
Goalkeeper Erica Cimochowski was kept busy all afternoon. She recorded eight saves on the game with the Pointers shooting 16 times.
The Pointers fall to 7-8-1 overall and to a 2-3-1 record in the tight middle of the WIAC.
The Falcons finish up their season with two WIAC home matches. On Wednesday, they take on UW-Superior at 7 p.m. UWRF is 20-0 all-time against Superior.
On Saturday, Nov. 1, the Falcons take on UW-Eau Claire for the season finale and Senior Day. That game also kicks off at 7 p.m. McKuras said the team will continue to work hard and are ranked No. 10 in the region on the NSCAA.com for the second week in a row.
