The UW-River Falls soccer team played Gustavus Adolphus for their first game on the new artifical turf at Ramer Field and won 1-0 to improve to 7-3-2 on the season.
Neither team managed much offensive production in the first half as the Falcons had one shot on goal and GAC did not attempt a single shot on net. UWRF did have nine total shots in the period including a couple opportunites that went just wide after one on one scoring opportunites. UWRF had three corner kick opportunites in the half.
Nina Abrahamson scored the first ever goal on the new turf for her third goal of the season off assists by
Abby Soderholm and
Alex Swatloski after a scramble in front of GAC goalie Caroline Olson.
The Falcons put up six other shots on goal in half but Olson came up with saves on all of them. GAC did not put up a shot on goal the whole game.
Erica Cimochowski played strong in goal by diving on the ball before the Gusties could get a scoring chance on a couple plays. The Falcons had four more corner kicks in the second half while GAC did not have a single corner kick in the game.
On Saturday UWRF will head to UW-Oshkosh (6-5-1) with the game starting at 2 p.m for a big WIAC game.
