Box Score The Falcon men's hockey team improved to 3-0 with a 5-2 win at Bethel University on Friday night.
The Falcons dominated the first period and took a 4-0 lead into the locker room after the first 20 minutes of action. Both teams scored one goal in the second period and BU got the only third period goal.
Ryan Doner got the scoring going with a goal at 5:06 of the first period. It was his second goal of the year and he was assisted by
Christian George and goalie
Tanner Milliron.
Mike Fazio netted his first goal of the season just 55 seconds later to put UWRF ahead, 2-0. He was assisted by
Terry Leabo and
Alex Murphy. George got his second point of the period at 7:41 when he scored another even strength goal. He was assisted by Doner, who picked up his second point of the period, and
Kyle Gattelaro. It was George's third goal of the young season. The Falcons weren't done with the scoring in the period.
Blake Huppert scored an unassisted boal at 11:04 to make it a 4-0 game. It was his first goal of the year.
The Falcons jumped ahead, 5-0, with a power-play goal just 40 seconds into the second stanza.
Mitch Kontny got the goal, his first of the season, with assists to Huppert and
Mike Dietrich. Both of BU's goals came on the power play - they scored at 14:43 of the second period and 17:38 of the third period.
Milliron improved to 3-0 and he finished with 12 saves. BU goalie, Matt Rose stopped 34 shots.
The Falcons were 1-4 on the power play while Bethel finished 2-7. UWRF was called for 10 minor penalties and BU six.
The Falcons open their home season on Saturday hosting Augsburg College at 7:05 p.m., at Hunt Arena.
