The UW-River Falls Falcons (0-2) went basket for basket with Hamline University (2-0) but were put away by a late game three and fell 72-64 despite strong performances from post players
Connor Goodwin and
Jon Christensen.
The Falcon bench led by Goodwin scored over half the teams points in the game with 38 of the 64 on the day. The first half was a fast paced, clean game with almost no stoppages. Only one 30 second timeout was called the whole half and both teams stayed out of foul trouble. UWRF only had five turnovers at the half going 8-8 from the charity stripe and held a 33-32 lead going into halftime.
Joe Deppe came out with two big three pointers and had six points at the half while Goodwin had seven.
The second half was stolen by Hamline senior Dior Ford who finished with 22 points including a clutch late game three and moved up in team scoring history.
Freshmen guard
Matt Timlin hit two big second half threes off the bench and finished with nine points. As a team UWRF went 5-20 (.25) from behind the arc and 23-65 (.35) in the game. Despite going 8-8 in the first half from the line, UWRF finished 13-18 (.72) in the game.
Goodwin finished as the team's highest point total with 18 which is a new career high. Christensen had 11 points and led the team in rebounds falling just one short of a double-double with nine.
Grant Erickson did a nice job managing the game and finished with six points and four assists.
UWRF will have its home opener Saturday against Concordia University (1-1) for the Falcon Pride Fan Contest game with tip-off set for 5 p.m., at the Karges Center.
