The UW-River Falls Falcons won 4-1 over Lawrence University on their Movember game at Hunt Arena this evening.
The first goal of the game came when
Mike Fazio found the back of the net. Even though UWRF only managed five shots on goal and had three penalties n the period they took a 1-0 lead into the second period.
Tanner Milliron knocked away 13 Lawrence shots on goal.
The second period saw three goals with Lawrence getting on board first to tie the game 1-1 at 8:22 into the period.
Blake Huppert scored his third goal of the season on the Falcons first power play opportunity of the night assisted by
Mitch Kontny.
With 7:30 to go in the period UWRF had a chance to go up by two goals but Mattias Soderqvist made a big save. Soderqvist finished the game with 16 saves.
Fazio misdirected a
Zach Schrotenboer shot and tipped in a goal for his second of the evening to put UWRF up 3-1 just seconds after the big Soderqvist save.
AJ Jarosz also was credited with the assist on the goal.
Millirion made two quick saves with under four minutes to go to keep it a two goal advantage for UWRF going into the thirdThe Falcons put 10 shots on goal in the period while Lawrence had 11 shots on goal.
The third period was clean and fast paced most of the way through. At 4:57 UWRF went on the power play after a five minute game misconduct was called on Lawence for direct contact to the head.
Taylor Burden found the back of the net for an empty netter to seal the 4-1 victory with Kontny and
Jeff Bergh each recording assists.
UWRF put 20 shots on goal while going 2-3 on power play chances and killing three Lawrence power plays. Milliron had a strong performance finishing with 28 saves.
The Falcons improve to 5-0 on the season and will hit the ice again tomorrow evening at Hunt Arena against Northland College out of Ashland, Wis. with the drop of the puck set for 7:05 p.m.
