The UW-River Falls Falcons improved to 6-0 on the season with a 3-0 shutout victory over Northland College.
Ryan Doner went on a breakaway right away in the first period and scored 54 seconds in with a nice pass from
Alex Murphy who got the assist on the play. The goal was Doner's third on the season.
Northland (1-7) were no pushover in the game battling the Falcons tough after the early goal. UWRF only got eight shots on goal in the first period and did not convert on their only power play opportunity while Northland recorded four shots on goal and did not have a power play chance.
Both teams had two power play opportunities in the second period but were not able to convert. The only goal of the period did not come until there were 19 seconds left when
Terry Leabo ripped a shot past the goalie for his second goal of the season with
Mike Fazio and Corey Lushanko each recording assists on the play.
The Falcons took that momentum into the third period scoring just 1:27 in when
Jeff Bergh found the back of the net off an assist from Lushanko. Bergh has two goals on the season while Lushanko now has two assists.
UWRF had four power play chances in the game and did not convert on any while Northland had two power play opportunities both killed by the Falcons.
The Falcons put 28 shots on goal while Tanner Millirion recorded his first shutout of the season with a 19 save game.
UWRF will head to Augsburg College on Tuesday with the drop of the puck set for 7:30 p.m.
