The Falcon women's basketball team (3-6, 0-3 WIAC) traveled to take on the UW-La Crosse Eagles (4-6, 1-2 WIAC) and fell 56-54 in the final ticks of the game.

The Falcons trailed by as many as eight points in the first half before cutting the Eagle lead to 27-24 right before halftime. In the second half the Falcons largest deficit was only three points.

UWRF hung around to take a one point lead 50-49 at the 2:33 mark after a
Kate Theisen free throw, but were unable to build on it. Theisen was able to tie the game with just 11 seconds left in the game at 54-54 with a jump shot. On the play UWRF was called for a foul sending Eagle Jenna Anderson to the free throw line where she would go on to make both giving the Eagles a 56-54 lead with eight seconds left in regulation. The Falcons would come up just short after a missed jump shot as time expired resulting in the loss.

Messman had a game high and a career high 20 points going 7-14 shooting from the field and 6-9 from the free throw line.
Ali Clark provided a spark off the bench scoring eight points to go along with five rebounds. Junior
Richell Mehus had a well-rounded night with four points, three steals, as well as five assists.

As a team the Falcons recorded 26 points in the painted area and were able to get 17 points off of second chance opportunities. UWRF was able to make the Eagles pay for turnovers as the converting them into 25 points. In a game that was tied nine times and changed leads another five it was a battle between two very evenly matched conference opponents.

The Eagles had a balanced scoring attack through the night with three players recording double digits, highlighted by Junior Maggi Bishop with 14 points.

The Falcons will play next when they host Viterbo University this Saturday with tipoff set for 5 p.m.Â
