Kate Theisen went on a tear as the UW-River Falls picked up a big 87-55 victory over the Viterbo University V-Hawks breaking the Falcon single game scoring record with 41 points.
"Kate (Theisen) was unbelievable," Falcon Coach
Cindy Holbrook said. "She played very aggressive all night. The whole team played great and opened shots for each other all game."
Junior
Jessie Van Wyhe set the tone early with a big block on the V-Hawks first possession of the game.
Katie Messman hit her first of four threes 56 seconds into the game for the games first score. UWRF would never relinquish the lead scoring the most points they have all season long. Messman finished with 16 points in the game.
Theisen scored her first basket not longer after for the first of her huge night. She went 16-18 from the field going 8-9 from the charity stripe hitting the only three she took while adding two assists and two steals.
UWRF rolled from the start of the game jumping out to a 25-4 lead with 8:53 left to go in the half. Van Wyhe and fellow junior
Richell Mehus were all over the court for the Falcons. Van Wyhe finished with seven points and dished out six assists and recorded three steals while Mehus scored 10 points while grabbing six boards, five of which were offensive and had seven assists.
Taylor Karge had a team high nine rebounds while scoring eight points and added five assists.
Hannah Pignato had a game high four steals.
UWRF went 33-60 (55%) from the field with five threes and went 16-23 (69.6%) from the line. As a team the Falcons had 25 assists and 11 steals.
The Falcons head into the holiday break 4-6 on the season and will play next on Dec. 30 at home against Gustavus Adolphus College.
"We needed to win going into break," Holbrook said. "We have been banged up for a while and need to get healthy. We are a good team and can turn the corner on the season."
