Jon Christensen scored 27 points and added six assists as the UW-River Falls Falcons rolled to a 90-79 victory in their WIAC opener against the UW-Superior Yellowjackets.
Joe Deppe scored 14 seconds for the first basket of the game in a back and forth first half between the Falcons and Yellowjackets. UWS tied the game two different times before actually taking the lead at the 8:57 mark leading 28-26 over UWRF.
Jack Herum knocked in a three with 6:32 left in the half but Superior came right back to take the lead again.
The Falcons were down by two as they held on for the last shot of the half with Christensen drilling a three to make it 41-40 going into halftime. UWRF went 5-7 from behind the arc in the first half.
UWRF would never trail again controlling most of the second half. The Falcons finished the game 31-54 (57.4) from the field and 8-13 (61.5) from three point range while going 20-32 (62.5) from the charity stripe.
Christensen went 10-14 from the field going 5-7 from three and 2-2 from the line.
Grant Erickson had a big game scoring 16 points while dishing out seven assists.
Connor Goodwin also hit double digits with 10 points in the game.
UWRF improves to 3-4 on the season and hits the road again on Saturday taking on UW-Eau Claire with tip off set for 5 p.m.
