The No. 7 UW-River Falls Falcons (8-2) hosted the No. 8 UW-Superior Yellowjackets (7-3) and won 6-2 with
Dani Sibley and
Karleigh Wolkerstorfer each contributing three points.
The first period only saw one goal and one penalty with Superior putting 10 shots on goal while UWRF had 16 shots on goal. It was not until the 15:04 mark that the Falcons broke the tie with the games first goal when Sibley knocked in the puck in the middle of a scrum in front of the net.
Carly Moran and Wolkerstofer were each credited with assists on the goal.
The second period started much the same as the first until Superior tied the game up at the 10:27 mark. Sibley added her second goal of the evening on a power play with a back hand from the right side of the net with Wolkerstorfer and
Paige Johnson getting assists. The assists gives Johnson 10 points on the season. UWS again tied things up by scoring a power play goal of their own just five seconds into the power play opportunity. The Falcons went 1-2 on power play chances while UWS went 1-3 on their opportunities.
At 16:14 into the period Moran sniped a shot into the back of the net with fellow freshman
Dani Kocina recording the assist. Moran has 10 points on the season now and Kocina has 12 points.
Alice Cranston and
Chloe Kinsel had a nice give and go with Kinsel lighting the lamp to make it 4-2 UWRF going into the third period.
Early in the third period the Kinsel, Cranston connection scored again for UWRF, this time with Cranston getting the goal. Kinsel came into the evening second in the nation for scoring and now has 24 total points on the season while Cranston is second on the team in scoring with 15 total points.
Wolkerstorfer put the cherry on top for UWRF at 11:53 off nice passes from
Sam Greeley and Sibley to make it 6-2 in favor of the Falcons. UWRF put 37 shots on goal while holding UWS to 21 with
Angie Hall stopping 19 shots in the victory. Sibley has 12 points on the season and Wolkerstorfer also hits double digits on the season with 10 total points.
UWRF will head to Superior tomorrow with the drop of the puck set for 7 p.m.
