Gattelaro Records Hat Trick As Men's Hockey Wins 4-0 Against Saint John's

Milliron Records Second Straight As Men's Hockey Moves to 10-0 On The Season

The UW-River Falls Falcons improve 10-0 on the season after a 4-0 victory over the Saint John's University Johnnies.

Kyle Gattelaro recorded his first collegiate hat trick and Tanner Milliron made 22 saves in his second straight shutout. "I am very proud of team and especially our effort," said Falcon Coach Steve Freeman. "Everyone is willing to pay the price for us to be successful in games and practices. We are getting contributions from all the players and players are accepting their roles on the team."

With 8:56 left to go in the first period UWRF put their first point on the board when Blake Huppert ripped a shot from the right half board that Johnnies goalie Jason Dzurik got a piece of but was not able to make the save. The Falcons only managed four shots on goal in the period while Saint Johns had six stopped by Milliron. The Johnnies had two power play opportunities in the period while the Falcons had none.

Gatelaro scored two quick goals in the second period. The first was a wrist shot from the top of the left circle at 2:19 into the period and the second was a power play goal at 3:40 when Ryan Donner had a nice pass from high slot to Gaterlaro who lit the lamp from the left face off dot. UWRF scored on the only power play chance for either team in the period. Saint John's had five shots on goal while the Falcons had seven.

Gatelaro scored another power play goal just over halfway through the third period to complete the hat trick when he picked up a loose puck at the center line and drove it down the right line to put it in on the goalies glove hand side. The goal was his sixth of the season with Ryan Doner recording his eighth assist.

"Our power play and penalty kill have been very good and that was the case tonight (UWRF was 2-4 on powerplay and killed off all five of SJU'S power play chances). We want to keep riding our very good special teams play," Freeman said.

The Johnnies put 11 shots on goal but Milliron kept his strong play going and now has gone 129:53 without letting in a goal. "He (Milliron) is playing very confident right now and is big in the net. He is on a roll and playing well," Freeman said.

UWRF will look to keep their hot start to the season going Friday night at Hunt Arena against Hamline University with the drop of the puck set for 7:05 p.m.
