Box Score After going down 1-0 the UW-River Falls Falcons (3-2) came back to win 2-1 at the College of St. Scholastica this afternoon.
"This is a great win for our program and this team," said Falcon Coach
Sean McKuras.
Kelsey Kehtel scored at the 28:21 mark of the first period on a right angle shot assisted by Jalyn Britton to put CSS up on the Falcons.
Despite being down 1-0 UWRF attempted six shots compared to just three by CSS.
Missy Barnett scored her first goal of the season to tie the game up early in the second half assisted by
Kenzie Weisman.
The Falcons did not attempt a corner kick in the first half but had three in the second including the one that led to a game winning goal with less than nine minutes left to go. It was
Kayla Windingstad who found the back of the net on the score assisted by
Megan Haninger.
UWRF attempted seven shots in the second period while CSS attempted eight.
Erica Cimochowski recorded two saves in net for the Falcons in the win.
"Beating a program like St. Scholastica is a big accomplishment and lets us know that we are heading in the right direction," McKuras said.
The Falcons claimed the Border Battle Chalice - a trophy that goes to the winning team each year. "This is the first time that we've won the chalice on their field!" said a happy, and proud, McKuras.
UWRF will play again tomorrow at home against the University of Minnesota-Morris with action starting at 4 p.m.
