Box Score The Falcons tied UW-La Crosse 2-2 in their WIAC opener on a day that started off as a sunny fall day and turned to a hard pouring rain as the game went into overtime.
UWRF went on the attack early and two great opportunities to score but one was knocked away by a diving Ashley Tracy in net and the next shot went just high. Tracy had a strong game for UWL recording nine saves. At 9:20
Abby Soderholm got fouled by the goal and got to attempt a penalty kick. She beat Tracy for her fifth goal of the season and put the Falcons up 1-0 early.
At 23:12 UWL tied the game up when Kirsten Anderson scored her first goal of the season. UWL had a chance late in the first half to take the lead but
Erica Cimochowski jumped up and got one hand on the ball for a huge save.
The second half was much slower than the first until just over ten minutes left. Kelly Denk took advantage of a misplay by the Falcons in front of the net at 78:20 to go up 2-1 in the game.
Alex Swatloski took a pass from
Carrie Anderson on the counter and beat the goalie to tie the game at 80:13 for her team high sixth goal of the season.
As overtime started the rain started to pick up and neither team could break the tie. Early in the second half of overtime UWRF had a great opportunity to score when Anderson sent a high ball towards net but Tracy jumped up and grabbed it for the save.
UWRF moves to 4-2-1 on the season and will hit the road to play the University of St. Thomas at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.
