Box Score The UW-River Falls women's soccer team never found an offensive rhythm in a 2-0 road shutout loss against the red-hot UW-Whitewater Warhawks.
A high-scoring Falcons offense ran into a defense-minded Whitewater team that extended its winning streak to five games, while outscoring its opponents 10-0 in that stretch—that's five straight shutouts for the Warhawks.
The Warhawks opened the scoring a mere 9:13 into the contest with a goal from sophomore forward Carly Pottle that slipped past Falcons sophomore goalkeeper
Erica Cimochowski (4-3-2). Pottle's fourth goal of the season was assisted by freshman midfielder Marie Lesperance, who upped her assist total to three.
Cimochowski kept the deficit at one when she made a strong save on a header from Whitewater's leading scorer, sophomore forward Brianna Reid, 11 minutes following the opening Warhawk goal.
Warhawks senior goalkeeper Jordan Myers (8-2) made of her two saves in the first half against Falcons sharp-shooter
Alex Swatloski with 11 minutes left in the half.
The Falcons got off to a fast start in the second half with two corner kicks and three shot attempts in the first 10 minutes, but the Warhawks pounded home another goal to quiet UWRF's comeback attempts. Reid found the back of the net for her fifth goal of the season at the 55:37 mark. Reid's goal was assisted by junior midfielder Jenna Woodson.
Sophomore midfielder
Kristen Manor registered a rare Falcons shot on goal at the 64:03 mark but Myers was in perfect position. Whitewater went into defense-mode for the rest of the contest in route to the shutout.
Cimochowski was called on to make late saves in an effort to keep the game within reach with difficult saves on Reid and freshman forward Jordan Jackson.
The Warhawks outshot UWRF 8-2, giving Cimochowski six saves on the afternoon. Myers registered her sixth save of the season. The Falcons only attempted four total shots, three coming early in the second half; Whitewater attempted 15. Reid had five of Whitewater's eight shots on goal.
