Women's Soccer Falls to Hamline, 1-0

The Falcons dropped yet another one-goal non-conference contest on the road to start the 2014 season.

The UW-River Falls women's soccer team dropped yet another one-goal non-conference road game to start the season, this time 1-0 at the hands of the Hamline University Pipers in St. Paul, Minnesota, on Wednesday afternoon.
 

The contest stayed scoreless until the 74th minute, but the Falcons were unable to answer after a late tally from Pipers sophomore midfielder Mayla Hirshowitz.
 

Shots on goal after one half were 3-3, with the Pipers attempting four shots to UWRF's five. Senior striker Alex Swatloski, freshman forward Kayla Windingstad (Lino Lakes, Minn.), and junior defenseman Missy Barnett all hit the target once in the first half.
 

Sophomore goalkeeper Erica Cimochowski (0-2) made all three saves required to keep the Pipers off the board in the first. Pipers sophomore goalkeeper Amy Ramras (2-0) also made three first half saves.
 

The Pipers committed two fouls in first half, but the Falcons were unable to capitalize on the free kicks. The Falcons had three corner kicks in the first half, the first coming from freshman midfielder Abby Soderholm in the fourth minute, the second from junior midfielder Jenna Marier in the 18th minute, and the third from senior midfielder Abbie Zastrow in the 30th minute; the Falcons came away without a shot on all three tries.
 

Barnett received a rare yellow card at the 54:57 mark of the second half. The Pipers also failed to capitalize on a corner kick in the 58th minute.
 

The Pipers broke the scoreless tie in the 74th minute when Hirshowitz slipped a shot past Cimochowski for her fourth career goal. The Pipers outshot the Falcons 2-0 in the second half and 5-3 overall.
 

The Falcons committed 11 fouls on the afternoon to Hamline's seven.
 

The Falcons drop to 0-2, while Hamline improves to 2-0. UWRF falls to 6-4 all-time against Hamline.
 

The Falcons' home opener against St. Catherine University is on Sunday at 4 p.m. at Ramer Field. The Falcons are 4-2 all-time against the Wildcats.
