Cranston Nets Two Goals As Women's Hockey Wins 4-2

Falcons Top St. Scholastica 4-2 As Kinsel Scores Three Points

The UW-River Falls Falcons jumped out to a 3-0 lead at St. Scholastica and went on to win 4-2 led by Alice Cranston's two goals.

"We played a really good game," said Falcon Coach Joe Cranston. "Our passing was much improved from last weekend. It was a solid team effort."

Karleigh Wolkerstorfer notched her sixth goal of the season with Carly Moran and Dani Sibley each being credited for assists. The goal was the only one of the period as UWRF dumped 10 shots on net and Kylie Hommerding stopped all four Saints shots in her third start of the season. The Falcons also had the only power play opportunity of the period.

A Cranston goal just nine seconds into the second period followed by yet another Cranston goal 37 seconds into the period gave UWRF an early 3-0 lead. Cranston now has 12 goals on the season. Kendal Evenson, Brianna Brieland and Chloe Kinsel all recorded assists on the two goals.

Just 2:44 into the second period CSS scored their first goal of the game but UWRF answered with a Kinsel scored a goal to give her 13 goals and 29 points on the season after a three point day. Brieland and Cranston each recorded assists. Breiland has six assists on the season and Cranston now has 21 points this year.

UWRF put nine shots on goal in the period while CSS put six of their own on net. The Saints had two power play chances killed by UWRF in the period.

The only goal of the third period came from the Saints but it took until the 19:02 mark. Both teams only mustered two shots on goal in the period as the Falcons finished with 21 and the Saints finished with 14 on goal. Hommerding finished with 12 saves and is now 3-0 this season.

UWRF improves to 12-3 on the season and will play CSS again tomorrow afternoon with the drop of the puck set for 1 p.m.
