Four Players Reach Double Digit Point Totals As Women's Basketball Wins 83-72

Karge Hits Three Statistical Career Highs As Falcons Top La Crosse

Taylor Karge hit three statistical career highs and four players hit double digits in points as the UW-River Falls Falcons (8-10. 3-6 WIAC) played host to the UW- La Crosse Eagles (7-11, 2-7 WIAC) this afternoon and came out victorious 83-72.  

Karge posted a career high 26 Points while hitting five three pointers and came up with four blocks. Richell Mehus added 14 points to go along with nine rebounds, seven assists and three steals while Ali Clark scored 11 off the bench and Cassy Saxton also added a spark off the bench with 10 points. 

Mehus got the Falcons off to a quick start after she swished the games first three points and from there the Falcons were off and running.

UWRF ggot great play from post players Clark, Hayley Rau, and Karge as the three players went on to combine for 23 of the Falcons 32 first half points. Clark shot 9-10 (90%) from the free throw line in the game. Point guard Jessie Van Wyhe was pesky on defense as she tailed two steals for the Falcons.

The first half saw many stoppages in play with 23 total first half free throws between the two teams. The Falcons shot 10-14 (71.4%) from the line and an impressive 4-10 (40%) from behind the three-point line. The Falcons and the Eagles went back and forth entire first half as the largest lead for the Falcons did not exceed five points. UWRF took a 32-29 lead into halftime.

UWRF wasted no time getting things going in the second half as Karge blocked an Eagles shot which lead to a three pointer from Katie Messman. The Falcons were lead by Karge all second half as she scored 18 second half points.

The Falcons were able to gain some separation from the Eagles at the 6:36 mark when Karge was fouled and made the basket to extend the leas for the Falcons 66-51. The Eagles did not give up and were able to make it close towards the end of the game with full court pressure forcing some Falcon turnovers.

At the 1:30 mark, the Eagles were only trailing by six points 76-70. The Falcons were able to knock down some timely free throws to end the game and extend the lead finishing with an 83-72 victory over the Eagles. The 83 points marks the highest points scored for UWRF in conference place. 

The Falcons shot 34 total free throws and as a team shot 11-21 (52.4%) from the three-point line.

The Falcons will travel to UW-Superior next Wednesday as they look to earn their fourth conference win of the season with tip off set for 7 p.m.
