On Saturday, the UW-River Falls women's basketball team played their second game after the holiday break taking on the UW-Whitewater Warhawks for a conference matchup falling 77-55 after a tough second half.
The Falcons were only down eight at the half, but Whitewater pulled away in the second half out scoring River Falls by 11 points.
Freshman Taylor Karge led the Falcons with 12 points. Richell Mehus was the only other Falcon to reach double-digits with 10 of her own. The Warhawks saw four players reach double-digits. Brooke Trewyn led Whitewater's scoring parade with 16 points.
The game started off great for UWRF. The Falcons had 9-point lead less than five minutes in the game via a Mehus layup. It was all Warhawks after that, though. The Warhawks went on a 15 point run after the layup and never really looked back.
With the loss the Falcons remain winless in WIAC play at 0-4 and drop to 4-8 overall. The win was the first conference win for Whitewater. The Warhawks are now 1-2 in conference and 6-6 overall.
The Falcons next play on Wednesday facing off against UW-Oshkosh in River Falls with tip off set for 7 p.m. The Falcons are 24-48 all-time against Oshkosh.
