UWRF Soccer Scores Early and Often to beat Bethel

Box Score

RIVER FALLS, Wis. (uwrfsports.com)- The University of Wisconsin-River Falls women's soccer team (7-7-2, 1-3-1 WIAC) scored three first half goals on their way to a 4-0 victory over non-conference opponent Bethel University.

The Falcons began the match attacking the Bethel defense early and often. UWRF did not wait long to score the first goal of the match.

After the Bethel goalkeeper stopped a Lizzy Bruder shot-on-goal, senior Jenna Marier gathered the rebound and buried the shot in the back of the net to put the Falcons up by one. Marier's goal was her second goal of the season.

Junior goalkeeper Erica Cimochowski has started in net for the Falcons in all but one of the 16 matches. She was strong in net the whole night for the Falcons.

Her first save of the match came at the 27:49 mark of the first half, which came after four straight Falcon shots.

About three minutes later, WIAC player of the week freshman Maggie Koehler put the Falcons up 2-0 on her third goal of the season. Sophomore Abby Soderholm assisted Koehler on the goal.

The Falcons did not give the Royals any momentum.

Four minutes after Koehler put the Falcons up by two, senior Megan Haninger joined Marier and Koehler in the scoring column when she booted the ball past the Bethel goalkeeper. Soderholm assisted Haninger on her first goal of the season.

The Falcons went into halftime with a 3-0 lead and all of the momentum.

Sophomore goalkeeper Talley Halvorson began the second half in net for the Falcons. Halvorson has seen action in five of the Falcon's matches this season, and she was tested early by Bethel. Halvorson was up to the task, as she stopped a Bethel shot-on-goal.

The Falcon offense would add one more goal in the second half, and that came at the 60:24 mark in the second half when Soderholm buried a penalty kick past the Bethel goalkeeper. Soderholm's goal was her eight of the season; she leads the Falcons in that category on the season.

When the final whistle sounded, the Falcons found themselves on the winning end of a shutout. It was a combined effort in goal for the shutout: Cimochowski stopped two shots in the first half and Halvorson stopped two shots in the second half.

The goal-scorers for the Falcons were Marier, Koehler, Haninger, and Soderholm. Haninger led the Falcons with four shots-on-goal.

The Falcons are back in action on Saturday, October 24 when they travel to Platteville, Wisc. to take on  UW-Platteville. The match is scheduled to start at 6:15 PM.
