Box Score MENDOTA HEIGHTS, Minn. (uwrfsports.com)- The University of Wisconsin-River Falls women's hockey team opened up its' 2015-2016 season on the road in Mendota Heights, Minn. against the University of St. Thomas Tommies.
The third ranked Falcons were defeated by the Tommies 1-2.
Sophomore goaltender
Angie Hall was in net for the Falcons, and she was strong all afternoon for UWRF. She stopped 29 of the 31 Tommie-shots.
The first period was quiet in terms of scoring for the Falcons, but UWRF had plenty of chances to put one past the St. Thomas goaltender. The Falcons managed to pepper the St. Thomas goaltender with 11 shots on goal.

Karleigh Wolkerstorfer led the charge offensively for the Falcons shooting an array of shots at the UST goaltender.
Unlike the first period, UWRF was on the power play three times in the second period, but UWRF could not cash in on any of the three minor penalties. UWRF's penalty kill was on display in the second period, as the Falcons committed three minor penalites of their own. UST could not muster up a goal on the three penalties.
After two periods, it was a battle of the two goaltenders, as the score remained 0-0.
The third period saw a combined three goals by the two teams.
At the 2:29 mark in the third period, the Tommies opened up the scoring by burying a goal past Hall to put the Tommies up by one.
About two-and-a-half minutes later, UST made it a two-goal game by putting another goal past Hall.
The experienced Falcons did not panic because of the two-goal deficit. About two minutes after the Tommies scored, the Falcons cut the UST lead in half. UWRF freshman forward
Jillayne Gilbert scored her first goal of her college career. Freshman forward
Victoria Holman and freshman forward Jessie Anderson assisted Gilbert on her goal.
At that point in the game, the Falcons had enough times to tie the game up or maybe even take the lead, but UST had other ideas.
UWRF could not put another goal past the UST goaltender before time expired. The Falcons were not able to get Hall off the ice in place for an extra attacker until the 19:42 mark. By that point, the Falcons had limited chances to tie the game up.
UWRF was not able to tie the game up before time expired, and was defeated 1-2.
