Box Score STEVENS POINT, Wis. (uwrfsports.com)- The University of Wisconsin-River Falls traveled to UW-Stevens Point to square off in an early season matchup against the WIAC foe.
The Falcons (2-2, 0-1 WIAC) were defeated by the Pointers 2-1.
The Falcons got plenty of chances in the first 15 minutes of the first period, UWRF found itself with a deficit when the Pointers got a shot past UWRF goaltender
Angie Hall. That goal was in the late stages of the first period, and it came on a power play opportunity.
Right after the UWSP goal, UWRF found itself on the power play after a tripping penalty, but the Falcons could not tie the game up on the first of many power play opportunities on the evening.
The second period did not see any goals from the Falcons until freshman forward Jessie Anderson buried a shot past the Pointer goaltender to knot the game up at 1-1 with just 59 seconds left in the second period. Freshman forwards
Victoria Holman and
Jillayne Gilbert assisted Anderson on her goal.
Entering the third period, the score was tied at 1-1, but at the 4:40 mark in the third period the Pointers broke the tie to make the score 1-2.
That Pointer-score was the final score for either teams in a tightly contested game.
For the Falcons, Hall stopped 22 of the 24 Pointer-shots, and the Falcons were able to generate more power play opportunities than the Pointers. UWRF was also able to outshoot UWSP 25-24.
The Falcons fall 2-2 overall and 0-1 in conference play. UWRF has the opportunity to get revenge on UWSP, as the Falcons are back in action on Saturday afternoon against the Pointers. The puck-drop is set for 2:30 p.m.
